A Librarian and a lecturer with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Abia State, Dr. Caroline Amarachi Okoro has noted that lack of enabling environment has hindered library practice in Nigeria. She made the assertion at the 60th Anniversary of Library Practice in Nigeria which took place in Abuja.
Dr. Okoro noted that despite the lack of a conducive environment, library practice has contributed so much in the development of academic work in Nigeria. She wants the Nigerian government and the masses to understand the impact of libraries in Nigeria.
She observed that at this time of disinformation and misinformation, the society needs library services to address the issues.
They noted that ICT is an inseparable part of library practice as it is the in-thing in modern societies.
She therefore implored the government to provide power and other support materials that will enhance the work of librarians. She also wants the government to provide training to librarians to enhance their skills and performances.
