The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abuja Council Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche has revealed that the NUJ is planning to establish a trust fund that will cater for the needs of Journalists. When fully established, he says members will be able to access funds to solve essential needs like education, health and other necessary issues that have been making the profession unattractive.

Comrade Ogbeche made the revelation when the council conferred Peace Ambassador Award on the founder of A. A. Zaura Foundation, Alhaji Abdulsalam Abdulkareem Zaura in Abuja. He says NUJ Abuja Council became interested in the activities of the awardee when he through his foundation donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to journalists to help them overcome the scourge of the novel coronavirus – covid-19.

He also mentions the zeal of Zaura Foundation in the area of philanthropic and humanitarian activities.

Comrade Ogbeche then, on behalf of the NUJ solicits for partnership with A.A Zaura Foundation. His words; “The NUJ wants to build a relationship with you that endures, a mutually beneficial relationship where we will tell Nigerians the character that you are, the good things that you do and the ability that you possess to even do more”.

Comrade Ogbeche tells the founder of Zaura Foundation that the NUJ needs people like him to donate generously to the trust fund NUJ is about to establish. He puts it thus; “We are planning to a trust fund where we will once in a while go to and support our members. Some desire to go to school, some have issues of health. So individuals like you with affluence, can also bring your friends to contribute to the fund”.

In his response, the founder of A. A. Zaura Foundation, Alhaji Abdulsalam Abdulkareem Zaura expresses appreciation for being honored with the Peace Ambassador Award by the NUJ. He admits that NUJ has been a wonderful friend to the foundation. He thanks the NUJ for being able to identify the potentials in him and believing that he can partner with the council. He sums his appreciation thus; “My appreciation to you cannot be qualified. I thank you so much and I want to reaffirm and assure you that we will always be with you in terms of supporting your good job”.
