A young boy, Akobundu Kenneth Oluebube has manufactured a scooter bike which was on display at the 2021 Science, Technology and Innovation Expo Abuja. He was in the company of Imo State contingent as it is Imo State that provided the facility he used to manufacture the scooter bike.
Speaking at the event, the commissioner of Science and Technology, Imo State, Hon. Sunday Umeh said Akobundu was able to construct the scooter bike in the Hitech workshop put in place by Governor Hope Uzodinma immediately he assumed office.
According to him the Hitech workshop was put in place because of the promise Governor Hope Uzodinma made to the world on assumption of office – that Imo State will be one of the food processing and producing states in Nigeria. He puts it thus: “Governor Hope Uzodinma on assumption of office promised the whole world that Imo State is going to be one of the food processing and producing states in Nigeria.
The Hon Commissioner for science and Technology said the Hitech workshop is manned by young engineers like Engineer Chinedu who supervises Akobundu Kenneth Oluebube. The workshop also produces other items like hand washing machines, food processing machines etc.
Hon. Sunday Umeh said that apart from the massive achievement in machine fabrication, Imo State has cosmetology workshop where variety cosmetics are produced.
Meanwhile the scooter machine has four-liter petrol tank and can run the speed of 5km/h. The Hon Commissioner said it will be further developed and commercialized.
