The appointment of Prof. Aliyu Jauro as the Director General/Chief Executive officer(CEO), of National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, (NESREA) will be a good omen in the existence of agency. Prof Jauro came from a rich academic background and has experience in the core competence areas of the agency he is heading.
He has been at the helm of affairs in NESREA for barely one year after taking over from Dr. Lawrence Chidi Anukam, on Feb, 17th 2019. Within this short period of time he has hit the ground running by first identifying areas that the agency needs to improve on to be able to fulfill its mandate.
The agency has functional offices in only 30 states of the federation, including Abuja where the headquarters is located. He believes for Nigerians to feel the impact of the agency, it must have functional and befitting offices in every state of the federation.
As one from the academic world, who has worked very hard to be elevated to the rank of professor in industrial chemistry from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University which he joined as graduate assistant, he is in a good stead to bring innovations to the agency baring paucity of fund.
He has earmarked major areas that need urgent attention, like provision of facilities to enable staff function well at their duty posts.
He pointed out that operation vehicles of the agency need to be maintained and increased for efficient performance of the workforce.
As a professional in one of the major competent areas of the agency, Prof. Aliyu Jaura will turn around the fortune of the agency before the end of his tenure, all things being equal.
