Umunya Community in Oyi LGA of Anambra State has formed COVID-19 Response Team. The objective of the laudable initiative is to first put preventive measures against the pandemic and to provide palliatives to down trodden in the community.
The initiative is the brain child of the traditional ruler of the town, HRH. Igwe Kris Chinedu Onyekwuluje.
Since Nigeria became apprehensive of the pandemic and asked for donations from well-meaning individuals and organizations to be able to put preventive measures in place and provide for the poorest of the poor; there have been responses in cash and materials from these entities.
The South East was initially excluded from palliatives being shared across the nation, until there was an outcry from the region. The exclusion made communities in the south east form COVID-19 bodies to provide palliative materials and palliatives to their people, such as the COVID-19 Response Team Umunya.
As a visionary leader, HRH Igwe Kris C. Onyekwuluje has to set the ball rolling by making the first donation of #500,000 (five hundred thousand naira only).
Immediately his donation was confirmed by the committee constituted to oversee the project, Umunya people of means started sending their donations in cash and materials. Below is the list of donors as from16th April, 2020;

This initiative of HRH Igwe Kris Onyekuluje will in far reaching extent put smiles on the faces of indigent people in the town. And it is in another way going to bring peace to the town that has been bedeviled with accusations and counter accusations.
