The Independent Electoral Commission of Nigeria (INEC) on 6 Jan., 2020 deregistered 74 political parties out of 92 political parties that were in existence, leaving only 18 political parties to operate subsequently.
INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu the parties failed to meet constitutional requirements that determine the continuous existence of political parties in the country, hence their deregistration.
