National Gallery of Art to empower women with WIVA Exhibition

The National Gallery of Art, custodians of Nigeria’s creative value, has said it would be empowering several women talented in the visual arts with the Women in Visual Art, WIVA, Empowerment Program, 2019.

They made this known in a statement by Director, Educational Services Department, Eve Ikuenobe –Otaigbe.

She said ” The keynote address is by the Chairman, GT Bank and 1st female Director, Rtd, of Nigeria’s Apex Bank, CBN, Mrs. Osaretin F. Demuren and the exhibition would hold from 1st to 2nd February 2019,in Abuja, with the theme :“No Woman Left Behind. – Nigerian Women Bridging the Gap In Politics and Governance,”

According to Otaigbe, “the 2-Day event is fully packed with: An exciting Mini-Road Show/Carnival to create awareness in some parts of Abuja right up to Exhibition Hall. A visually aesthetic Pictorial Exhibitions that aptly depicts a historical Artistic Chronicle of Nigerian Women Bridge Builders in Politics &
Governance.”

There will be Interactive Panel Discussion and Paper Presentations by prominent
Nigerian women led by Gender specialist, Professor Emeritus and
Current Dean Faculty of Art, University of Abuja, Barrister Professor
Mabel Ewierhoma.

Others include the 1st Female Corps Deputy Marshall, Mrs
Ojeme Ewurjakpor, Motivational Speaker and Co-Founder of Nigeria’s
Didi Museum, Chief Mrs. Elizabeth Jibunoh, Deputy Chief, International
Foundation for Electoral system, Mrs. Uloma Osuagwu, Secretary
Female Voters League of Abuja, Mrs. Charity Echor, and INEC Deputy
Director, Mrs. Blessing Obidegwu.

Otaigbe noted that “This program resonates deeply with the Federal Government’s mantra to position women for increased participation in the electoral process. It
presents an opportunity to encourage Nigerian women to become change
agents, serves as voter education and as a vehicle for participants to view
election from a gender perspective. It finally gives a pictorial nostalgic”.

The Nigeria Gallery of Art, also calls for works of Art, as the public and arts experts are enjoined to send in top of the line works of art based on the theme for this exhibition to be juried and curated by staff of the National Gallery of Art.

Would be Exhibitors are expected to send in the following: Name of Artist, Telephone number, Number of works, Titles and sizes, Narrative on Works should be sent to head of Service, Federal Secretariat, Phase II, Block E, Floor 9, Shehu Shagari Way, Abuja. Last acceptance date will be January 25th, 2019.
