The Director Road Traffic Services, Yobe State, Ibrahim Mohammed has posited that intermodal transportation is safe for Nigerian roads. According to him if fully implemented will ease the presence of too many vehicles on the road.

Intermodal transportation is the movement of cargo from origin to destination by several modes of transport (e.g. railship, and truck), without any handling of the freight itself when changing modes.

Some of the benefits of intermodal transportation are that Shippers can take advantage of lower rates, more predictable pricing, and the flexibility of loading and unloading goods in a dropped trailer environment, which reduces handling costs. It is also reliable and has the capacity to transport large consignment at a time.

Mohammed made this disclosure at a two day maiden edition of the National Transport and Tourism Summit held in Abuja.

The aim of the summit was to focus on the relationship between transport provision and transport with the view of focusing the papers and discussions on highlighting global perspectives and how Nigeria can queue into global practices.

Mohammed believes that the communiqué issued at the end of the summit would be utilized by the authority to improve the sector.
