FERMA contractors are owed over N20bn – Alagbaoso

The member representing Orlu, Orsu and Oru Federal Constituency of Imo State in the National Assembly and the Chairman of House Committee on FERMA (Federal Road Management Agency), Hon. Jerry Alagbaoso has identified debt as the major challenge facing the agency.

He made this disclosure in his office during a chat with some news men. “The major challenge the organization is facing is debts. Contractors are being owed a lot of money, you talk about N20bn plus. Although we are making some arrangement to see how the federal government can alleviate the suffering of some of these contractors in term of intervention” he said.

On the other hand he says that FERMA as the agency responsible for road is saddled with road maintenance, repairs and road rehabilitation has been working and its presence is noticeable in every nook and cranny of the country especially since the new management came on board.

The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) was established by an Act of the National Assembly in 2002: Federal Road Maintenance Agency (Establishment, etc) Act 2002, and Federal Road Maintenance Agency (Amendment) Act 2007. FERMA has two operational Departments (East and West). Each of them is headed by an Executive Director.

Apart from its core mandate, Hon Alagbaoso says  the agency do occasionally embark on repair of state roads where there are economic oriented roads, like where they produce rice, cassava etc. so that such feeder roads can help in transporting food to where they will be sold.

The board FERMA is made up of; Tunde Lemo as Chairman with Engr. Nurudeen Abdurrahaman Rafindadi, Buba Silas Abdullahi, Babagana Mohammad Aji, Engr. Shehu Udman Abdullahi, Loretta Ngozichukwu Aniagolu, Mujaidu Stanley Dako, Vincent Oladapo Kolawole, Engr. Chukwunwike O. Uzo, Mrs. Olubunmi Siyanbola , Alh. Abdulrazak Ma’aji, Alh. Saidu Abdulkadir and ACM Peter Osawe as ‎members.
