The President Nigerian Institute of Architect (NIA), Arc. Olatunji Olumide Bolu has expressed delight in the continual growth and vibrancy of the annual exposition of building material and construction technology christened ‘archibuilt’.
He said that the steady growth of the annual exposition for over 2 decades ‘is a testimony that the labours of our heroes past were not in vain.’
The President expressed this delight in Abuja at the opening ceremony of 28 edition of archibuilt 2017 with the theme ‘Promoting the Development of Building Material and Services for Nigeria Market.’
In a goodwill massage at the occasion, the Minister of Water Resources Hon. Suleman Adamu emphasized the need for decent and affordable housing for Nigeria to reduce the humongous figure of deficit in the sector.
He decried the overreliance on imported materials in the built environment, stressing ’60 to 70 percent of materials used in the water resources sector are imported and that poses a big challenge because the foreign materials are very expensive.
He observed that Nigeria is not lacking in research and innovation but in translating the research result into products.
The minister however, noted that local content policy of federal government will go a long way in encouraging research and innovation as well as development of artisanal skills in the built environment.
Adamu further said that investment in the water resources sector was done in the 60s; hence the urgent need for massive investment in the sector.
