Former Sydney Olympics 4x400m gold medallist, Sunday Bada, will be severally cloned amongst the youths and children in Kogi state, this is an assurance I have committed myself to and promise the people who elected my husband as the governor of the state.
These were the words of Barrister Amina Bello, wife of the Kogi state governor, when she received a delegation of the Nigeria Olympic Fund who paid her a courtesy visit in Abuja.
The CEO of the project, Mr. Olajide Fashikun, told the wife of the Executive Governor of Kogi state, Barr. Amina Bello, that her choice to lead the project, named after the cerebral former senior police officer who hails from Ogidi in the state was conscious and deliberate.
“Nigerian kids in Kogi state are in for good nurturing and proper harnessing of their talents by the time the project kicks off. We require six schools, one primary and one secondary in every senatorial district as our centres for development and an all comers centre in Lokoja.”
Mr. Fashikun regretted the plight of the Nigerian athlete and kids in the area of talent nurturing and harnessing. He stated that, the time has come for former athletes to come out and save the Nigerian sporting sector, the reason him and other 10 former internationals came up with the project.
In her remarks, Barrister Amina Bello applauded the team for their passionate commitment and zeal to bring back the glorious day of Nigerian sports.
She urged the team not to be deterred as they progress as achieving success in everything is difficult.
“I must commend you for your bringing up this idea to help the talents of the country; For also immortalizing our late brother, Sunday Bada. This kind of initiative is what has made the western countries had edge and remain relevant in sports.”
“They have designed programme for their talents and that has made transition for them at the podium easy.”
Barrister Bello further pledged her support to the project. I shall endeavor all that God has endowed me with to make sure our children and youths tap into this opportunity with zeal. With this project, I see so many of our young boys and girls become international celebrities in a short while.
The Basic Olympic Opportunity Sports Training (BOOST) is the project arm of the Nigeria Olympic Fund. Mrs Bello received a copy of the current newsletter of the project and signed up on the Celebrity Endorsement form. She is by this the Chairperson of the Sunday Bada sports development programme in Kogi State. She signed up to the Sunday Bada brand on the icon list.
Fashikun was accompanied by five-time Olympian and Executive Director of the project, Chief Mary Onyali. Also on board were the Director of Management Services, Alhaji Abdulfatai Adeshina, the Business Development Director, Collins Ajibola amongst others.
