Nigeria’s Armed Forces making sacrifices for peace – First Lady Mama Peace

The first lady and wife of the President of Nigeria, Dame (Dr.) Patience Faka Jonathan has said that Nigerians recognize and will never forget the sacrifices being made by our soldiers in defense of peace and stability in the various zones and parts of the world .

Mama peace who made this statement in her speech at the celebration of the international day of peace in Abuja pointed out that on this day we should remember the victims of conflicts around the world and especially Africa.

She said we must be conscious that conflicts can only result in insecurity, promote poverty, reverse our democratic gains and ultimately tear our society apart.

The first lady admonished that as lovers of peace we have the responsibility to make the world peaceful enough for our existence, while sadly regretting that over the years meaningless conflicts had erupted in different parts of the world which have led to countless loss of human lives.
While speaking of the occasion the under- secretary in (African affairs)in the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Amb. Gordon Harry Bristol who represented the Minister of State, Foreign Affairs noted that, the antidote to our challenges that endanger the true propagation of a culture of peace is not weapons and ammunition but shared values , a common desire for peace, a universal embrace of human rights among other things.

The Commandant –General of the National Unity and Peace Corps, Dr. Chinedu Nneji on his part asserted that peace as an attitude and way of life must be cultivated as peace is most of humanity’s precious needs to be cultivated.

He disclosed that a culture of peace creates values for tolerance, love, democracy and teamwork spirit.

Dr. Chinedu Nneji affirmed that, there was only one organization which is able, willing, capable and ready to wage war against those who disrupt or violate rights of people to peace , which is his organization.

He said they would be able to do this through subtle, comprehensive community-based campaigns and enlightenment.

On his part the Norwegian ambassador to Nigeria promise that , his country , Norway will help Nigeria effectively in her fight against terrorism and ensure that peace reigns supreme in the country as he said that without peace there cannot be any form of development .
