The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Abdu Bulama has formally inaugurated the boards of The National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NARICT) and The Nigerian Institute of Leather Science and Technology (NILEST).
In his inaugural address at the occasion, the Minister noted that the chairmen and members of the boards were appointed by the President Goodluck Jonathan on the ground of their individual achievements. He opined that the two agencies whose boards were inaugurated were strategic to the development of science and technology as well as vehicle for national development and transformation. He said that NARICT was established with the mandate “ to research into processes for the conversion of solid minerals, petroleum and agricultural raw materials into useful industrial chemicals, petrochemicals and polymers and conduct R&D activities into industrial plastics and textiles and other synthetic materials.”
NILEST, according to the Minister was established with the mandate “to provide courses of instructions, training and research in the field of leather and leather product and conduct R&D on leather technologies and goods production.”
In conclusion, the minister assured the newly inaugurated boards that “the Ministry will give you its unalloyed support for you to succeed”.
The Chairman of NILEST, Dr. Godwin Timothy Ndaman Ajakpo, OON, the Galadiman of Lokoja responded on behalf of members of the two boards. He thanked the President for choosing them to serve the country at this transformation period. He promised that they will contribute their quota in the transformation process.
A member of one of the newly inaugurated boards, Alh. Umaru Dange told our correspondent that members of the boards were appointed based on their contributions to the growth of the economy. Alh. Dansa who is a retired banker and civil servant, before going into politics said the boards under their care will perform beyond expectation.
The DG/CEO of NILEST, Dr. Isuwa Kari Adamu was on ground to ensure a successful event. The event took place in the conference hall of the ministry.
