The Chairman of The Procurement Professionals Association of Nigeria (PPA) Wahab Toye Esq. has said that quacks cannot survive under the new public procurement act, because of technicalities involved in procurement process. He listed such technicalities to include registration with CAC, expert analysis of facts, evidence of tax payment etc. The revelation was made during a one day workshop of PPA in collaboration with theme; “Public Procurement as a Veritable Tool for Achieving Good Governance Socio Economic, and Political Objectives of Government”
While speaking to newsmen at the occasion, Barr. Toye said that PPA is a voluntary association that brings professionals and experts together in order to make practitioners comply with the public procurement act in order for all stakeholders to benefit from the exercise as it is done world over. According to him, it will help to achieve the objective of the government in providing infrastructure – value for money. He said PPA is encouraging every interest group to key into the process.
Another stakeholder, Ahmed J. Suleiman Esq. the Principal partner at Trust Consult Limited said PPA has come a long way and should be nurtured to be as strong as NBA. He pointed out that the industry had not been regulated until the time of Obasanjo administration. He gave the three levels membership in the association as Associate, Full membership and Fellow. He said that the entry qualification is HND or first degree.
