New Capital School (NCS), a foremost pre-school, nursery, primary and junior secondary school held her 2014 Price-giving and graduation ceremony. The school that started in 1987 with five children is one of the first such schools in FCT and ranks among the best in terms of quality and content according parents whose wards have passed through the school.
Among the set that graduated are those from pre-school to nursery one; those from nursery two to primary one and those passing out from primary six. There were many categories of prizes given at the occasion: Best overall pupil; Best pupil in each class; best pupil in each subject etc.
In his welcome address at the occasion, the Head teacher of NCS, Mr. Augustine Nkwonta gave a brief summary of the achievements of the school in the year under review. He informed the audience that three pupils of NCS had outstanding performance in the National Common entrance examination. He said Fatima Zahra’u Umar, Boluwatife and Chiemeka Nwandu with the following scores; 169,168 and 167 out of 200 marks respectively.
He also told parents that school now engages the services of some plain clothe security operatives the safeguard the school on twenty four hour basis.
He commended the school Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for providing the school with play gadgets worth over two million naira only. He reminded parents that each pupil will pay a five thousand naira levy for construction of the school mini-stadium.
Finally, he admonished the graduating primary six pupils passing out to serious with their studies and work harder if they really want to succeed in live. “Beware of negative influences that abound in our world today. Remember your Alma-mater and be good ambassador of your Alma-mater”, he concluded.
The chairman of the occasion, Dr. Akeem Oyeyemi Lawal, the Senior Registrar in the Chemical pathology department of National Hospital, Abuja simply described NCS as the best in the elite schools in Abuja and above all moderately priced.
Another parent that graced the occasion is the ECOWAS Vice President, Dr. Toga Gayewea Mcintosh and said he had three options when he was looking for a school for his granddaughter and had to choose NCS after much comparison. “She has been fantastic and her progress fantastic”, he said. “She reads, writes and very articulate”, he added.
Another parent whose children have passed through the school, Mrs. Mokelu said it is because of the impact of the school on the lives of her children that she made sure all her children went to the school. Her child who graduated this day, Miss Chinwe Mokelu collected many awards because of her outstanding performance in the school.
Pharm. Ifeanyi Obidike commended the management of the school for molding their pupils to be world class without charging much in comparison to what they offer to the pupils. His daughter, Emma, got several awards because of her exceptional brilliance.
