Federal Civil Service Staff With Disabilities Multipurpose Co-operative Society (FCSSWDMCS) holds 1st Annual General Meeting at Merit House Abuja. The association is made up federal civil service staff across the nation.
In his opening address the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the association, Alhaji Iliasu O. Abdul-Rauf gave a brief history of the association. “The Federal Civil Service Staff With Disabilities Multipurpose Co-operative Society (FCSSWDMCS)was established under Co-operative Decree 90 of 1993, now an Act of 2004 as regulated by National of Co-operative of 2002”.
“However, he continued, “in December, 2013 FCSSWDMCS was established in line the above law.
He revealed that the Board of Directors were elected from different Federal Ministries, Department and Agencies MDAs) and that the directors were categorized under persons with disabilities (PWDs). According to him the desk officer of persons with disabilities at the office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), Ms. Omotunde Ellen Thomson was made the National President of the organization. Her appointment as the desk office was during the tenure of Alhaji Yahayle Ahmed as the then Head of Service of the Federation.
Alhaji I. O. Abdul-Rauf was appointed as the national coordinating Chairman and the CEO mandated as an expert, to work with the Desk Officer of PWDs in the area of empowerment of PWDs. He said that the association was during the tenure of Alhaji Isah Bello Sale as the HCSF in 2013 allocated an office space at the Head of Service; Block E, Room 20, Federal Secretariat, Phase 2-Abuja. The office was also relocated in the same year to No. 1-2, Usman Danfodio Street, Aso Villa-Abuja.
The organization was represented by a five-man delegation to the UN House, New York for the Economic and Social Council at the 52nd Session of the Commission on Social Development (CSD 52nd), which took place between 11th and 21st February, 2014.
At the event was Mabel Ozumba (Mrs.), a Director with Equal Rights for Persons with Disability International Incorporated to present an award from the organization to the CEO if FCSSWDMCS, Alhaji Iliasu O. Abdul-Rauf for his humanitarian and voluntary services to humanity. She expressed happiness for being part of the event. She enjoined Nigerians to ensure that these people are cared for. “We can’t afford to allow these people suffer want”, she said.
The PRO of the organization, Godson Elekwachi, a staff of Radio Nigeria enjoined his colleagues, the journalists, to publicize the event to the world.
An Assistant Director (Program), Clem Obosi advised disabled people to know that there is ability in disability and engage themselves in viable skills.
