Two young barristers, Oluseyi Adetanmi Esq. and Deji Omotosho Esq. have written a book on victimology and criminal justice in Nigeria. The book titled, “The Concept of Criminal Justice System in Nigeria” is written in honour of Hon. Justice Christopher M. Chukwuma-Eneh JSC(Rtd), CON. The twelve chapter book has contributions from Emeka Nwankwo Esq. and Dare Oketade Esq.
Speaking to newsmen at the venue of The Public Presentation/Launch of the book, a co-author of the book, Deji Omotosho said the book is an exposition on the plight of victims of crime. He opined that there is the need to hear out victims of crime and compensate them after the offender or the criminal might have been punished. He maintained that justice should not solely be focused on punishing the offender, but also on how to give succor to the victim. “The sentence on the offender can be lowered, especially in lesser offenses, for there to be compensation for the victim”, he said.
The book presentation and launch which took place at Yar’Adua Centre attracted big wigs in judiciary among who is the President of NBA, Okey Wali SAN.
A copy of the book sold for at least twenty thousand naira only at the launch venue.
