The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), has organized a two day seminar for her members. The event with the theme; “Anti-Corruption, Fiscal Responsibility and Effective Leadership” took place at EFCC office in Karu, Abuja.
Hon. Sambo Aliyu, who is the chairman of ALGON in Adamawa State, commended the organizers for the well-researched contents presented at the training. The state chairman promised the he would be into practice all he learnt during the seminar in discharging his duties.
One of the few female Local Government Chairpersons at the training, Hon. Hilda E. Evans, the Chairman Lamirde LGA, Adamawa State, said that if she did not attend the training, she would have blamed herself, because the training according to her has opened her eyes to new knowledge. She revealed that her greatest achievement has been construction of feeder road through which her people take their farm produce to the market. She said one of the problems she encountered in her early stage in office was acceptance by the male folk, but all that have changed due to her good performance in office. Hon. Evans described Local Government Chairmen as Governors of rural people.
Hon. Farouk Muhmmad, the Executive Chairman, Ganye LGA of Adamawa State said that the training should be made compulsory for all ALGON members because of the rich contents of the seminar that were quite relevant to the activities of local governments in Nigeria. He said he will transfer the knowledge into action immediate he got back to his LGA in Adamawa State.
The Director of Human Resource, Kebbi LGA, Kebbi State, Abdussamiu Sesikudu, said the training came at the right time and will make the desired impact in the activities of executives of LGAs in Nigeria. He said that the local government area is the intermediary between state and the people. He said the local government officials need regular training to be able to do their jobs effectively.
The two day training was meant for Chairmen, Secretaries and senior officials of local government areas in Nigeria. The training will be conducted in every zone of the country.
