House to House Campaign Organization for Democracy commissions her national secretariat in Abuja. The organization is a political pressure group made up of young and progressives cutting across youths, students, opinion and thought leaders and politicians within the constitutional age brackets 18 and above, with the eligibility of universal adult suffrage to vote and be voted for. The main goal of the H2H is “to mobilize all Nigerian electorates nationwide by deploying supporters in every polling unit in Nigeria come February 14th, 2015 and ensuring that our National Executive Committee work in line with the campaign organization”. H2H has ten objectives thus: Advocate, Motivate, Educate, Activate, Captivate, Sensitize, Conscientize, Mobilize, Conceptualize and Actualize, all geared towards ensuring that President Goodluck Jonathan runs and wins second term election in office.
In his welcome address at the event, the DG of H2H, Hon. Ben Bara Ogidi stated the believes of the organization, “The House to House campaign Organization for democracy believes that democratic development should guarantee economic rights of the citizens, maintain respect for the rule of law, and ensure existence of a free independent and patriotic press, the institutionalization of the supervisory role of the public over state organs and the election of political representatives.
“House to House campaign Organization for democracy also believes the conventional notion that the relationship between democracy and development is that democracy accelerates development, therefore the values of democracy should be exhibited in the family, workplace and all kinds of institution in the world”.
The reason H2H is pressuring President Jonathan to run for a second term stem from the fact that he had recorded many landmark achievements in a very short time in office. According to a publication of the NGO, “Under President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan GCFR, Nigeria has bagged the following results: The largest economy in Africa; 26th largest economy in the world; 6000 megawatts of electricity by December 2014; Award of contract for the second Niger Bridge etc., etc.
The Chairman of Board of Trustees of H2H, Dr. Badom Badom told our reporter that H2H will work to actualize her goal. He said the oppositions are there to make sure President Jonathan does not continue in power. He pointed out that when the militants were disturbing, their people knew them and went to talk to them. He went on to say that the opposition know the members of Boko Haram and should go and talk to them. He therefore advised Nigerians to be patient that everything will be normal soon.
The Akwa Ibom State coordinator of H2H, Hon. Jonathan Udofia that he has devised a strategy to apply in getting his people join H2H to ensure that President Jonathan continues in power come 2015. He said his chapter has good youth structure that will be coopted for the campaign. He advised youths to join H2H and they stand to benefit at the end of the day.
The event was chaired by Senator Philip T. Aduda. Mother of the day was Amb. Dr. Aisha Audu-Emeje. Keynote address at the occasion was delivered by a Nollywood actor and practicing lawyer, Barr. Kenneth Okonkwo.
The newly commissioned office of H2H is on Ubiaja Crescent, Garki 2 Abuja.
