In an effort to salvage the unemployment situation in the country, the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu has flagged off a Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P funded on ICT based enterprise development and promotion for unemployed youths, Technical Vocational Education and Training, (TVET).
In an address at The Women Center, Abuja, Wogu said that the scheme is a six month training for graduates and non-graduates to develop and promote ICT based entrepreneurship in Nigeria . He added that it is in partnership with Glalxy Back Bone, a leading ICT company in Nigeria
He noted that TVET is a component of SURE-P aimed at addressing unemployment situation in the country considering the fact that ICT base is wide and provide opportunities for jobs both in local and international labour market. He said, “The TVET earlier skill-for-jobs demand analysis reveal an opportunity to empower young Nigerians using various enterprise platforms in the ICT such as commercial development of apps, etc. The modules of Galaxy back bone company have provided an easily identifiable quick win for wealth creation and empowerment in our country.”
He e encouraged the participants numbering 2,000 to make adequate use of this opportunity to benefit from the enterprise development programme so that at the end of six months, the nation would have turned out 2,000 skilled persons who will also create jobs.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director, Galaxy, Galaxy Back Bone, Mr. Gerald Ilukwe pointed out that apart from N20, 000 monthly stipend that will be paid to the participants, his organization will also provide successful interns with ICT equipment such as laptop to enable them become masters of their own as well as employers of labour.
