By Kennedy Dimaku, Abuja:
As car robbery by way of taxi, popularly known as “one Chance” is ravaging the streets of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Chief Executive Officer, Painted Abuja Taxi Nig Ltd, Comrade Shehu Shugaba Yaradua has disclosed that the new Abuja Taxi Scheme would put the menace to an end.
He said his organization is collaborating with various security agents in FCT to end the untold and unwarranted disposition of people’s money and belongings.
Yaradua in an exclusive interview with our correspondent said that Painted Abuja Taxi Ltd is one of operators licensed by the FCT Transport Secretariat in the new transport scheme in FCT with the aim of delivery better transport services and ameliorate difficulties faced by FCT residence.
According to him, “The unwholesome practices meted on the FCT residence by way of transportation and the activities of people using taxi to perpetrate robbery, (one chance) are some of the reasons why government wants to regulate the taxi drivers. In this new scheme, we know our members, all other operators know their members. Government has given each operator a colour code. If any body boards an orange colour, for instance, and has a problem, he knows where to report and the taxi driver would be traced.”
He pointed out that the operators have biometric data of all their driver members including their thumb print. He added that the information about the drivers is in both soft and hard copies which are readily available at all time and as well published in their website.
He posited that one chance is perpetrated by illegal unpainted vehicles that ply as taxi, urging the public to desist from patronizing them in order to safeguard themselves from becoming victims.
“Each of our taxi has a number by the side of the car. Once you are able to identify the side number, everything you need to know about the driver is available. Also, we have tracking mechanism that we use to track down any of our member driver who is accused of an offence and he refuses to come and clear himself of such allegation. Above all, we have enough taxi to serve the FCT. So, why would people endanger their lives by going to patronize illegal unpainted taxi operators?” Queried the president, Painted Taxi Drivers Association
