A party stalwart in Kwara State and a former House of Representative member Hon. Engr. Yahaya A. Yinusa, was at the ground breaking ceremony held by PDP in Ilorin, to welcome back defecting members of the party and new members to the party.
An elated Hon. Yinusa told our reporters that PDP has taken Kwara State from defectors, including the state executive. He said that despite all the tricks state government used to distract people from attending the rally, yet there was a mammoth crowd at the venue. He confidently said that PDP will win massive in Kwara State come 2015.
The event named “Unity Rally” attracted many party bigwigs across the country including President Goodluck Jonathan. The President said this while addressing the crowd that received him at the Unity Rally organised by the PDP in the State:“As from today, everybody in Kwara State is free because PDP is not owned by anybody but by the people themselves”, he said.
President Jonathan, who re-christened the unity rally as Freedom Rally, also declared that “god-fatherism”, imposition of candidates, personalisation of political party and impunity were dead in the PDP.
PDP, according to Jonathan, serves the people and not individuals in the party, “we don’t have dictators in PDP.”
The President described the PDP as the only party that could liberate the people of Kwara from the shackles of oppression from few individuals.
A number of party officials from around the country spoke at the event; The president of the Senate, David Mark and the chairman, Board of Trustees of the party, Tony Anenih, said the crowd was overwhelming and a confirmation of the huge presence of the party in the state.
Mr Anenih said that the only party that had the internal democracy to settle rift and misunderstanding was the PDP.
Nigeria’s Vice President, Nnamadi Sambo, also pointed out told that the huge crowd was a manifestation of the transformation agenda of the president and urged those yet to join to do so.
Some of the decampees that also spoke at the grand event were Dele Belgore, Gbemisola Saraki, Bilqis Gambari and Akeem Lawal.
On the President’s team were members of PDP national executive council, led by the chairman, Adamu Muazu, BOT Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih, Chairman, PDP Governors’ Forum, Godswill Akpabio and Niger State Gov. Babangida Aliyu.
Others were Liyel Imoke of Cross River, Deputy Governor of Sokoto, Alhaji Muktar Shagari and his Kogi counterpart, Yomi Awoniyi.
They were received by the Caretaker Committee led by its Chairman, Solomon Edojah, Presidential aides, Mrs Sarah Jubril, Senators Ajadi Makanjuola, Simeon Ajibola and Hajia Bola Sagaya.
