The Nigerian Medical Students Association (NIMAS) has organized an International Summit and Award ceremony in Abuja as party of the fortieth anniversary of NIMAS which was formed in the late sixties. The theme of this year’s event is, “NIMSA International Summit on Global Health”. According to the National President of NIMSA, Mr. Bashir Maru, the theme was in consonance with the association’s vision and objective of fighting global diseases.
NIMSA is the umbrella body that brings medical students in the country together. Membership cuts across universities in the country where medicine is offered as a course. The incumbent President is a final year student of Igbinedion University Okada, Edo State. He told our correspondent that immediately a student graduates from school, he ceases to be a member of NIMSA and joins the alumni association.
The keynote lecture at the event was delivered by Dr. Tosin Ajayi, the CEO of 1st Foundation. As NIMSA in concerned about global diseases and their eradication, the lecture revolved around; “Knowledge, Imagination and Network”.
NIMSA awards according to Maru, are meant to celebrate those who have worked towards eradicating global diseases. The Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu was one of the awardees in this year’s event.
Medical students from across the nation attended the event. Dr. Ibrahim Kana in his remarks urged NIMSA members to be good ambassadors of medical profession in their various institutions.
