The Chairman of Forum of Chairmen Local Government Service Commission in Nigeria, and the Chairman Lagos State Local Government Service Commissions, Mr. Moshood Oluwole Ojikutu has pointed out that human management is very complex and that ability to give personnel the best training and best motivate them to do their best in order to move a country forward. He made this submission at the workshop on Human Resource Management: “The Role of Local Government Service Commissions”. This year’s workshop is organized by the Forum of Chairmen of Local Government Service Commissions in Nigeria in collaboration with the Administrative Staff Collage of Nigeria (ASCON).
The Forum of Chairmen of Local Government Service Commissions is made up of all the Chairmen of the Local Government Service Commissions in the States of the Federation and the Area Councils Service Commission of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The forum which was initiated 12yeas age with the purpose of meeting regularly to discuss common problems and exchange ideas has in the past partnered with some international organization like DFID, USAID etc. in convening stakeholders’ conferences.
Ojikutu explained in his opening address that the Commission has also been partnering with three major Universities in organizing training programmes for local government personnel. The institutions are; UNN, ABU and OAU.
The PRO of the Commission also spoke to newsmen at the occasion. Chief Hon. Mrs. Bridget Orjiekwe, the Chairman of Local Government Service Commission, Enugu State told reporters that some state governors do not tamper with local government fund. Citing example with Enugu State, she revealed that local governments in the State have bought tractors and other equipment which they use in building and maintaining local government roads. On the low attendance at the occasion, she said some of their members were on the final lap of their tenure in office, hence their inability to attend the workshop.
