POLYTECHNICS LEAD AT 2ND NEIE

The 2nd National Education Innovations Exhibition, (NEIE) which is organized be the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Communication Technology, Federal Ministry of Science & Technology and Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade &Investment is an improvement on the first edition. The event is meant to showcase a selection of works going on in Nigeria educational institutions and related agencies. It was an opportunity to notice the talents existing across Nigeria and the potentials for enhancing the dynamism of our society.
This years’ exhibition shows that polytechnics in Nigeria led in number of inventions and innovation on display at their stands.
Engr. Rabiu Idris, chief lecturer Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State showed newsmen the giant fish roaster which is an improvement on the previous version. The current version according to him roasts fish in less than 4hrs, unlike the previous version that used to roast fish in 5 – 6hrs. The new version can last up to 15yrs. The cost is two hundred thousand naira (#200,000.00). Engr. Idris said the high cost was due to the galvanized materials used in production of the machine.
Another polytechnic that came with spectacular innovation was Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State. The chairman of Exhibition Committee and the Director of Science and Technology, Dr. John Taiwo Adekolawole, showed newsmen round the rich stand of the institution. The institution had over 15 products on her stand, noble among them was Multispectral Radiometer. There were other products like electric cooker with oven, Leather Palms, flower vase, Rain gauge, etc.
The director told newsmen that the institution needed money from federal government in order to beef up her stock of these inventions.
