African leadership Exellence Award(ALEAWARD) is an international award – giving organization registered in England and Wales company No. 715(853. Activities of the organization are premised on the noble vision of engendering the consciousness of African brotherhood and service in all spheres of human endeavor amongst Africans at home and diaspora. The mission of ALEWARD is; “To achieve peaceful co-existence national unity and socio – economic development through good governance, disease impact mitigation and poverty reduction.
ALEWARD has Africans of impeccable characters on its board, with Dr. Marcel Okechukwu Ezenwoye as the BOT chairman. Mr. John Aiyemenre Iyoha is the LOC chairman of the 2013 event. This year’s event was combined with a book lunch, that is why it is tagged, “ALEAWARD 2013 and Book Lunch. The title of the book is; All Alone! It was written by Rev. Fr. Adolphus Ikechukwu Ezeakor. The book analyses the psychosocial condition of Nigeria widows and childless women on inheritance and property relations. It highlights incidences of major trauma events, such as violence, abuse and neglect that affect millions of female population every year.
Speaking to newsmen at the occasion Rev. Fr. Ezeakor suggested that education and advocacy could be the starting point around harmful traditional practices among the minority groups in developing countries.
The BOT chairman Dr. Marcel O. Ezenwoye told press men that the organizers of the award do not collect any money from awardees before giving them such award. He said that African Leadership Award for Excellence and Good Governance was instituted to recognize and honour leaders who provide exceptional leadership in any field of societal endeavor, governance, education, science, community development etc.
Engr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, a former commissioner in Katsina State under late Musa Yar’adua, and former executive secretary of PTDF was one of the awardees. He told newsmen that the award conferred on him by ALEAWARD was special and on merit, as nobody approached him for monetary consideration before the award.
Dr. Gambo Bala Iggi, the chairman and chief executive officer of Iggi Digital Media Enterprise and the founder of the largest NGO in West Africa was also and awardee. He corroborated what Engr. Darma said about the fairness on the part of the organizers in choosing awardees.
Over 20 individuals were decorated with ALEAWARD this year. The host of the event, Dr. Sarah Jubril, Special Adviser to the president on Ethics and Values was full of praises for the organizers and advised other award committees to emulate ALEAWARD example in their selection. Dr. Stella Nwosu was among the dignitaries that graced the occasion, and she presented some of the awards to their recipients.
